You see, I’ve relied on my intuition to guide me through some really tough spots.
“The doctors told me my daughter would die without another open heart surgery, but I knew she would die in the operating room if we followed their advice.”
In April of 2005, my husband David and I were facing a bleak set of circumstances. Our four year old daughter, Bridget, had already endured three open-heart surgeries before her 3rd birthday. And now her cardiologist was telling us that her sub aortic stenosis, a dangerous narrowing of tissue beneath her aortic valve, had returned. The pressure across her aortic valve was increasing by the week and we were running out of time before that valve would fail. She needed a valve replacement. And that replacement required another open-heart operation.
The problem was, Bridget’s heart was too small to accept an adult-sized valve. In fact, we could expect her heart to grow so fast over the next year that it was likely she would need multiple valve replacement surgeries within a short period of time as she outgrew her donor valves. And her chest was already riddled with scar tissue, which increased the chance of surgical complications.
Although I had always been upset by the prospect of Bridget’s heart surgeries, this time I was terrified. Everything inside me screamed “NO” to this operation. Each time I sought guidance from my inner resources, the answer was the same: Now was not the time for traditional approaches. The surgery would not be successful for her.
I had a visionary experience in which I saw Bridget die on the operating table. I told David we couldn’t go forward with the procedure. But the doctors said we had no other choice. Her condition was rapidly deteriorating. We were looking at a matter of weeks, a few months at the outside. Without the surgery, Bridget’s heart would fail, and she would die.
Fast forward three and ½ years.
Bridget is thriving.
And no, she didn’t have the surgery, at least not then. She had it a year later, after we had taken a trip halfway around the world to see a traditional healer who stabilized her heart until it grew enough to accept an adult valve. (Incidentally, the healing work he did also allowed her to walk independently for the first time…bonus!)
If you’ve never heard Bridget’s story before, you might have lots of questions about how we ended up taking that trip and what happened while we were there. As I look back on our experience and what it taught me about intuition, and how I’ve expanded on that understanding to transform my life and help others do the same, the most interesting questions for me are:
1) How did I know not to follow the advice of the doctors who had safely guided Bridget through three previous surgeries?
2) What was it that allowed me to separate my natural fears and wishes as a mother from true intuitive guidance?
3) How did I figure out what to do when we seemed to have no options?
4) What gave my husband and me the courage to take our 2 young children, one of whom could not walk and had a dire medical condition, on a journey to the other side of the world… to see an uneducated, traditional healer, in a developing country, where we knew no one and did not speak the language?
In all these cases, I relied on the confidence I had in RECOGNIZING, TRUSTING and ACTING ON my intuitive guidance to take our family where we needed to go.
What’s more, acting on the guidance I received further enhanced my intuitive abilities and gave me the tools I needed to completely transform my career and business, making more money than I’ve ever made while working less, engaging in activities that are deeply satisfying and in alignment with my values.
I began to realize that intuition was
not just a spiritual tool to guide me in protecting my family and
expanding my spirituality, but also a very practical means of
attracting opportunities and wealth. When I was younger, I always thought you had to work hard to be successful. And that meant sacrifice. I thought I had to choose: between having a flexible schedule that gave me time to do the things that brought me joy… and making a good living.
I started my career as a lawyer and realized fairly quickly that while the money was good, the lifestyle was not for me. So I went back to school and got a counseling degree. While psychotherapeutic work was rewarding, I didn’t want to have to see 30 clients a week to make ends meet.
Why didn’t I want to be locked into a rigid schedule? Because, like most people, I’ve experienced plenty of reminders of how fleeting human existence can be. We’ve all known people whose lives were cut short. For me, Bridget’s illness and developmental challenges were like a little bell going off in my head…an awakening of sorts. Yes I was terrified of losing her, but the palpable awareness of death in our family also made me realize that THIS IS IT! THIS IS MY LIFE! And it was too precious to waste one moment. Too pregnant with opportunity to be sleepwalking through even one day.
So I knew I didn’t want to work 24/7. And I didn’t want to do anything that wouldn’t bring me joy. But I also didn’t want to give up my dreams.
Dreams like: traveling to wonderful places with my family and friends. And sending my kids to schools that were uniquely suited to them. Making sure I always had the resources to get Bridget the support she needed (medical, developmental or alternative therapies). Being able to invest time, energy and money in learning new things…going to workshops and hiring coaches, consultants, healers and trainers. And having the energy to give to the relationships that are precious to me: David, our kids, my parents & my friends.
I wanted it all: freedom, flexibility, work that was meaningful and fun, and plenty of money to have the experiences that made life enjoyable for me.
And I figured out a way to have exactly what I wanted…all of it…by discerning how intuition fits into the process of conscious manifestation. Here are just a few of the tangible results I can share with you:
I’m also fortunate to have wonderful parents. My Mom is one of my favorite companions for sitting outside on a restaurant patio, going to our book club or Celtic Spirituality group, or just talking. And when my Dad died last summer, I was there. I miss him a lot… and I am also comforted by the fact that he knew how much I loved and appreciated him (and still do!)

Time for my LIFE.
When I worked as an
attorney for a law firm, I billed by the
o Right Livelihood. I do work that I love and about which I’m passionate. I see only ideal clients, coaching a few, highly-motivated people who are ready to transform their lives. I host a few large live events a year where I get to meet and work with dynamic, creative and interesting people who want to learn about conscious manifestation. I spend the rest of my career time writing, brainstorming with friends and colleagues about joint ventures and going to personal development and business coaching programs so I can continue learning, growing and have more to offer my clients. Most of the time, my work is play.
